Cooper Earns WIAC Athlete of the Week Honors

MADISON, Wis. (Blugolds.com) - The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire women's tennis player Emily Cooper (White Bear Lake, Minn./Mahtomedi ) has been named Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Athlete of the Week, it was announced today by Assistant Commissioner of Media Relations Matt Stanek.

Cooper won the No. 2 singles division in the UW-Whitewater Invitational on Sept. 1. She defeated Lily Hamilton of Grinnell College (Iowa) 6-0, 6-1 in the first round and followed up with a 6-4, 6-4 victory over Zeana Badawi of Augustana College (Ill.) in the semifinal. Cooper won the bracket with a 6-7 (4), 6-2, 1-0 (10-5) triumph over Madeline Slicker of UW-Whitewater. She lost a close three-set match in a tiebreaker at No. 3 singles in the Blugolds’ dual match against UW-Whitewater on Aug. 31.

Cooper and the women's tennis team host Saint Benedict (Minn) at the John and Fay Menards Tennis Center on Saturday Sept. 8 at 11:00am.
