Three Women's Tennis Players Earn WIAC Athlete of the Week Honors

MADISON,WIS.(Blugolds.com)-UW-Eau Claire women's tennis athletes; Hanna Zevenbergen (Baldwin, Wis./Baldwin-Woodville), Natalie Wijesinghe (Apple Valley, Minn.) and Emily Cooper (White Bear, Minn./Mahtomedi) were all recognized as the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Athletes of the Week, as announced by WIAC Assistant Commissioner for Media Relations Matt Stanek earlier today.

Wijesinghe and Cooper advanced to the semi-final round of the ITA doubles tournament hosted by Gustavus Adolphus College (Minn.). The pair took down Natalie Pieterick and Kaylie Conlin of Hamline University (Minn.) 8-3 in the first round, defeated Mackenzie Novak and Jill Weinzettel of Bethel University (Minn.) 8-5 in the second round and earned a spot in the semi-final round with an 8-5 victory over Paige McLeod and Taylor McLeod of University of St. Thomas (Minn.).

Zevenbergen won four matches to win the championship in her draw of the Gustavus Adolphus College (Minn.) Fall Invite. She defeated Kylee Funk of St. Catherine University (Minn.) 8-1 in the first round, earned a 6-1, 6-3 win over Ella Hagopien of St. Olaf College (Minn.) in the second round. In the semi-final, Zevenbergen defeated Bryce Bigelow of UW-Whitewater 6-2, 6-3, and won the championship match 6-4, 6-2 over Hayley Trebill of Gustavus Adolphus.

The women's tennis team competes again at UW-Stout on September, 26th at 3:00pm.
