Four Blugolds Earn WIAC Athlete of Week Honors

Madison, Wis. (Blugolds.com) -Four Blugolds were awarded with Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Athlete of the Week honors this week as announced by Assistant Commissioner of Media Relations, Matt Stanek. These athletes include women's volleyball player Madelyn Pashibin (Minneaplis, Minn. /Southwest), women's hockey player Holly Turnbull (Hayward, Wis.), diver Dylan Glumac-Berberich (Fridley, Min.), and women's swimmer Sam Senczyszyn (Grafton, Wis.)

Pashibin totaled 56 kills (4.0 per set), while compiling a .310 hitting percentage to help the No. 13-ranked Blugolds capture the WIAC regular-season title. She started the week with a team-best 17-kill, four-block performance, with one set assist in UW-Eau Claire’s five-set victory over UW-Stout on Oct. 24. In the Blugolds’ match for the WIAC regular-season title against No. 18-ranked  UW-Whitewater on Oct. 26, Pashibin led the Blugolds with 16 kills (.429 hitting percentage). On her first kill of the night, she recorded her 1,000th kill as a Blugold after hitting the overall career mark on Oct. 6. She then capped off the week with a season-high 23 kills, and one solo block performance in UW-Eau Claire’s contest with University of St. Thomas (Minn.) on Oct.27. Pashibin  and the volleyball team will host a second round WIAC Championship tournaments match on Nov. 1st at 7 PM, taking on the winner of UW-Stout vs. UW-Stevens Point.

Turnbull averaged four points, 1.5 goals and 2.5 assists per game for the No. 9-ranked Blugolds in their opening weekend of play. She scored one goal and had two assists with four shots in UW-Eau Claire’s 5-4 loss to No. 4-ranked Hamline University (Minn.) on Oct. 27. Turnbull then had a two-goal, three-assist (5 point) performance in the Blugolds’ 8-0 triumph over Marian University (Wis.) on Oct. 28. Turnbull ended the weekend with three goals and five assists for a total of eight points in two games. The women's  hockey team will be back in action on Friday, November 2nd as they will start a 5 game home stand starting with Bethel University at 7 p.m

Glumac-Berberich won both the one-meter and three-meter diving events in the Blugolds’ 120-65 dual meet victory over Luther College (Iowa) on Oct. 26. His score of 347.75 on one-meter established a UW-Eau Claire school record, a mark he broke for the first time a week ago. His score on the three-meter of 341.75 was also a UW-Eau Claire school record. A record that had stood for 20 years. Glumac-Berberich also won both diving events at the University of St. Thomas Border Battle on Oct. 27.

Senczyszyn was a member of the winning 200-yard medley relay and won the 50-yard freestyle in the Blugolds’ dual meet 130-60 victory over Luther College (Iowa) on Oct. 26. On Oct. 27 at the University of St. Thomas Border Battle, Senczyszyn won the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 24.00, which is currently the top time in the country, she also won the 100-yard breaststroke with a NCAA B cut time of 1:03.86 and a faster time than last year’s NCAA invited time. Her time in the breaststroke is currently second in the country. Senczyszyn was also a member of the third-place 200-yard medley relay and 400-yard freestyle relay teams.
