Bakken Tabbed WIAC Athlete of the Week

MADISON, Wis. (Blugolds.com) - The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire women's basketball player Kelsey Bakken (Marshall, Wis.) has been named Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Athlete of the Week, it was announced today by Assistant Commissioner of Media Relations Matt Stanek. This is the second week in a row Bakken has received this award and the third week in a row a Blugold women's basketball player has been honored.

Bakken propelled the Blugolds to a 2-0 league start with a pair of victories. She picked up her fourth double-double of the season with 22 points and 11 rebounds in a 85-58 win over UW-Whitewater on Jan. 5. Bakken shot 53 percent from the floor, while seven of her 11 rebounds were on the offensive end. In the conference opener against UW-River Falls on Jan. 3, Bakken led all scorers with 20 points. She was 7-of-12 (58 percent) from the floor, including 3-of-5 from behind the arc, while also grabbing eight rebounds, and recorded two assists and two steals. Through the first two games of WIAC action, Bakken leads all players in points per game with 21.0, and is second in offensive rebounding. For the week, she averaged 21.0 points, 9.5 rebounds, and 2.0 assists.
