Wittig and Hoeppner Earn WIAC Athlete of the Week Honors

MADISON, Wis. (Blugolds.com) - The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire women's hockey player Courtney Wittig (Green Bay, Wis./Bay Port) and women's basketball player Hallee Hoeppner (Winona, Minn) have each been named Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Athletes of the Week, it was announced today by Assistant Commissioner of Media Relations Matt Stanek.

Wittig had a solid week for the No. 9-ranked Blugolds, helping them to a 1-0-1 record, while scoring two goals and chipping in one assist. In UW-Eau Claire’s 2-2 tie with Hamline University (Minn.), she connected with a slapshot to beat the Piper goalie at the 10:37 mark in the first period. In a 5-1 win over St. Catherine University (Minn.) on Dec. 14, Wittig scored a goal and assisted on another. Wittig currently leads the WIAC with 17 points. 

Hoeppner led the Blugolds to a 2-0 record and improve to 7-2 on the season. She averaged 22.5 points, shot 50 percent (19-of-38) from the field and averaged 9.5 rebounds per game in the two games. Against Carleton College (Minn.) on Dec. 12, Hoeppner posted a career-high 31 points, a game-best 10 rebounds and 4 assists. This was her third double-double of the season. In the win over St. Catherine University (Minn.) on Dec. 15, Hoeppner scored 14 points with a 63.6 shooting percentage (7-of-11), and added nine rebounds.

The women's hockey team has a break before competing again on January 5th at Gustavus Adolphus (Minn.).
