Three Blugolds Earn WIAC Athlete of the Week Honors

MADISON, Wis. (Blugolds.com) - The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire's volleyball middle hitter Madelyn Pashibin (Minneapolis, Minn./Southwest), and women's tennis players Hanna Zevenbergen (Baldwin, Wis./Baldwin-Woodville)and Molly Stewart (Amery, Wis.) have each been named Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Athletes of the Week, it was announced today by Assistant Commissioner of Media Relations Matt Stanek.

Zevenbergen and Stewart went 2-0 during the week, helping the Blugolds knock of NCAA Division II Winona State University (Minn.) and UW-La Crosse. The pair earned a 6-4 victory over Kendra Kappes and Tayla Card of Winona State, then won 8-6 over UW-La Crosse’s Kimberly Steinert and Alyssa Boyer. The duo is now 3-0 in WIAC doubles play.

Pashibin surpassed 1,000 career kills, while helping the No. 15-ranked Blugolds to a 2-1 record during the week. She collected 57 kills (4.38 per set) six blocks and five digs over three matches. On Oct. 3, in a 3-0 victory over College of St. Scholastica (Minn.), Pashibin recorded 17 kills, with only two errors on 38 attempts (.395 hitting percentage), while chipping in with three digs, two blocks and one set assist. Three days later against No. 8-ranked University of Chicago (Ill.), she finished with a game-high 19 kills. Later that day, in a thrilling five-set win over Millikin University (Ill.), Pashibin tallied 21 kills and added three blocks and two digs and posted a .439 hitting percentage.

The women's tennis team travels to UW-River Falls on Oct. 10, and volleyball will host UW-La Crosse in their Dig for a Cure game on Oct. 10th at 7:00pm in McPhee.
