Four Blugolds Earn WIAC Athlete of the Week Honors

Madison, Wis. (Blugolds.com) -Four Blugolds were awarded with Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Athlete of the Week honors this week as announced by Assistant Commissioner of Media Relations, Matt Stanek. These athletes include women's tennis player Natalie Wijesinghe (Apple Valley, Minn.), women's tennis player Emily Cooper (White Bear Lake, Minn/Mahtomedi), diver Dylan Glumac-Berberich(Fridley, Min.), and diver Sarah Dahlk (Verona, Wis./Middleton) .

First year diver Sarah Dahlk  won both the one-meter and three-meter diving events to help the Blugolds to a 188-53 victory over UW-Oshkosh on Oct. 13. She won the one-meter board with a score of 191.40 and finished with a 183.40 in the three-meter competition.

Dylan Glumac-Berberichwon both one-meter and three-meter events and achieved an NCAA zone cut on both boards in the Blugolds’ 180.50- 57.50 victory over UW-Oshkosh in the first dual of the season. He won the one-meter diving event with a score of 315.60 and the three-meter competition with a 302.25.

Natalie Wijesinghe earned three WIAC victories at No. 1 singles, and led the Blugolds to three WIAC sweeps during the week. At UW-River Falls on Oct. 10, she received a default victory. She then earned a 6-0, 6-1 win over Leah Hollander of UW-Stevens Point on Oct. 12 and a 6-0, 6-0 victory over Alyssa Leffler of UW-Oshkosh on Oct.13. Wijesinghe has won six straight matches and has not lost since the first weekend of play. She improves to 6-1 on the season, including 5-1 in the WIAC.

Wijesinghe earned WIAC Athlete of the Week honors for her performance in singles play but also recieved the honor for her doubles play as well. Wijesinghe and doubles partner Emily Cooper  earned three WIAC victories at No. 1 doubles during the week. The duo earned an 8-4 win over Courtney Fenech/Natalie Nelson of UW-River Falls on Oct. 10 and an 8-0 victory over Leah Hollander/Kaylee Woelfel of UW-Stevens Point on Oct. 12. They finished the week with an 8-1 triumph over Alyssa Leffler/Michelle Spicer of UW-Oshkosh on Oct. 13. The pair is 5-1 in WIAC play.

The swim and dive teams will compete Oct. 20th at UW-Stevens Point, while the women's tennis team will compete in the WIAC Tournament at the Nielsen Tennis Stadium in Madison, Wis.
