Three Blugolds Earn Athlete of the Week Honors

MADISON, Wis. (Blugolds.com) - The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire's volleyball middle hitter Madelyn Pashibin (Minneapolis, Minn./Southwest), men's swimmer Collin Miller (Rochester, Minn./Schaeffer Academy) , and women's swimmer Jessica Short (Grafton, Wis.) have each been named Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Athletes of the Week, it was announced today by Assistant Commissioner of Media Relations Matt Stanek.

Madelyn Pashibin collected 69 kills (4.06 per set) and added six blocks and four digs to help the Blugolds to a 4-0 record, including two wins over top-10 opponents during the week. In a three-set sweep over UW-Stout on Oct. 25, Pashibin led the Blugolds with 16 kills and a hitting percentage of .433. In a thrilling five-set win over No. 9-ranked UW-Whitewater on Oct. 27, she tallied 16 kills, two block assists and one solo block. One day later against Greenville College (Ill.), Pashibin finished with 14 kills, two digs and three blocks in a 3-1 triumph. She capped the weekend off with a team-high 23 kills (.346 hitting percentage) in the Blugolds’ win over No. 1-ranked Wittenberg University (Ohio).

 

Collin Miller won the 200-yard individual medley and was a part of two winning relays in the Blugolds’ 145.50-88.50 win over Luther College (Iowa) on Oct. 28. Miller won the 200-yard individual medley with a time of 2:00.88, and the 200-yard medley relay finished in 1:39.81. He was also a member of the first-place 200-yard freestyle relay.

Jessica Short won the 200-yard individual medley, the 200-yard backstroke and was on the first place 200-yard freestyle relay, helping the Blugolds to a 138-101 win over Luther College (Iowa) on Oct. 28.  She broke the pool record with a time of 2.14.93 in the 200-yard individual medley, and finished the 200-yard backstroke in a time of 2:16.86.

The women's volleyball team will host the 2nd round of the WIAC tournament on Thursday November 2, 2017 at 7pm in the McPhee Center. The swim teams will host UW-La Crosse in a conference match up on Saturday Nov. 4th at 1pm.
