Yute and Wilczynski Named WIAC Athletes of the Week

MADISON, Wis. (Blugolds.com) - UW-Eau Claire softball pitcher Stephanie Wilczynski (Naperville, Ill./Waubonise Valley) and outfielder Katelyn Yute (North Prairie, Wis./Kettle Moraine) have each been named  Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Athlete of the Week, WIAC Assistant Commissioner for Media Relations Matt Stanek announced today.

Yute, the position player of the week, hit a team-leading .500 (13-for-26) with four doubles, two triples, one home run, 10 runs scored and had 7 runs batted in as UW-Eau Claire finished its last eight-games at the PFX games in Florida. She had at least one hit in all eight games and recorded a slugging percentage of .923 and on-base percentage of .519. In a 11-5 win over Buffalo State University (N.Y.) on March 21, Yute batted .625 on three hits; including one double, one triple, and scored three runs, with two runs batted in. She finished break with another strong performance against D’Youville College (N.Y.) - recording two hits, including a home run, three runs batted in and two runs scored.

Wilczynski went 3-0 and added one save with a 1.46 earned run average in six appearances at the PFX Games in Florida. She pitched 24.2 innings, allowing four earned runs and four walks, while striking out 12. Wilczynski earned her save in UW-Eau Claire’s  5-4 victory over Calvin College (Mich.) on March 23. She went six innings with six strikeouts and picked up a victory in the Blugolds’ 11-5 triumph over Buffalo State University (N.Y.) on March 21. Wilczynski went six innings, allowing one earned run on two hits with no walks in the Blugolds’ 9-1 win over Lawrence University (Wis.) on March 22. She also pitched 3.0 innings against D’Youville College (N.Y.) on March 23, allowing no earned runs, to secure her third win.

The Blugolds will travel to DePere, Wis. tomorrow, March 28th, for a double header with St. Norbert College.
