Peka Named WIAC Athlete of the Week

MADISON, Wis. (Blugolds.com) - UW-Eau Claire softball pitcher Sarah Peka (Chanhassen,Minn./Minnetonka) has been named a Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Athlete of the Week, WIAC Assistant Commissioner for Media Relations Matt Stanek announced today.

Peka went 3-0 during the week, earning wins over Nebraska Wesleyan University, Coe College (Iowa) and No. 8-ranked St. Catherine University (Minn.). In the Blugolds’ 9-2 victory over Nebraska Wesleyan, Peka went four innings with two strikeouts, no earned runs, and only two hits allowed. Against Coe, she went the distance, pitching a 1-0 shutout against the Kohawks. She had four strikeouts and gave up just three hits. The following day, Peka picked up where she left off - beating St. Catherine, 4-3, and earning her third win in as many games. She went all seven innings for the second straight game, striking out three and allowing two earned runs on four hits. She finished the week with a 1.50 ERA in 18.0 innings pitched and held the opponents to a .156 batting average.

The softball team will travel to Clermont, FL (Hancock Park) to play in the PFX Games from March 16 through the 23rd.
