Wolff and Blasczyk WIAC Athletes of the Week

MADISON,WIS.(Blugolds.com)-UW-Eau Claire softball players Leah Wolff and Lauren Blasczyk were both recognized as the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Athletes of the Week, as announced by WIAC Assistant Commissioner for Media Relations Matt Stanek earlier today. 

Position Player of the week, Senior Leah Wolff  (Middleton, Wis.) hit .500 during the week to help the Blugolds to a 3-1 record at the Rochester (Minn.) Dome Tournament. She recorded 6 hits in 12 at-bats with one RBI. Wolff was 3-of-3 with an RBI against No. 15-ranked St. Catherine University (Minn.) on March 4. She also had a multi-hit performance in the season-opener against Gustavus Adolphus College (Minn.) on March 3.

Lauren Blasczyk (Appleton, Wis./East) was named WIAC Pitcher of the week. Blasczyk pitched 19 innings during the week as the Blugolds opened the season at the Rochester (Minn.) Dome Tournament. She struck out 11 batters, while issuing only two free passes enroute to leading UW-Eau Claire to a 3-1 record. Blasczyk struck out seven and allowed only three hits and one earned run in the Blugolds’ 9-1 victory over Gustavus Adolphus College (Minn.). In the Blugolds’ second game on March 3, she pitched a complete game shutout against Washington University (Mo.). In a 4-1 victory over St. Olaf College (Minn.) on March 4, Blasczyk earned her third win of the weekend, pitching four innings with three strikeouts. She threw three innings against No. 15-ranked St. Catherine University (Minn.) in the final game of the week – a 5-4 loss to the Wildcats.

The Blugold softball team is off until their spring break trip down to Florida in mid-March. They'll take part in the Rebel Spring Games in Kissimmee, FL from March 16-18 followed by the PFX Games in Clermont, FL from March 20-22.
