Four Blugolds Named Athlete of the Week

MADISON, Wis. (blugolds.com) - Several UW- Eau Claire athletes named Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Athlete of the Week honors this morning as announced by Assistant Commissioner of Media Relations, Matt Stanek. These Athletes include men’s hockey player Patrick Moore, women’s track participant Jessie Reineck, women’s swimmer Sam Senczyszyn, and Nathaniel Behnke of the men’s wrestling team. 

Moore, a junior forward from Grand Rapids, Minnesota had four goals in two games during the week. He scored his fourth goal in the Blugolds last five games in a 2-1 loss to No. 11-ranked UW-River Falls on Jan. 21. Moore then recorded a hat-trick against No. 4-ranked UW-Stevens Point on Jan. 22. He tallied three goals on five shots, including the game-winner in overtime against the Pointers.

Reineck, a junior on the women’s track team from Greenville, Wisconsin won the 400-meter dash at the UW-Eau Claire Triangular with a facility record of 58.28. This currently ranks her fourth in the nation. She also anchored the winning 4x400-meter relay squad that posted a time of 3:57.20 to rank themselves second in the nation.

Senczyszyn from Grafton, Wisconsin is a freshman on the women’s swim team. She won both the 100-yard breaststroke and the 200-yard individual medley with times of 1:05.52 and 2:09.21, respectively, at the Point Invite. She finished second in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 1:00.04. Senczyszyn and teammates won the 200-yard freestyle relay with a time of 1:39.17, while finishing second in the 400-yard medley relay and 200-yard medley relay with times of 4:02.09 and 1:49.17, respectively.

Behnke, a senior from Bruce, Wisconsin wrestles 141 points for the Blugolds. Behnke had the best individual week for any wrestler at UW- Eau Claire this season. He defeated Levi Smith 6-1 in the Blugolds’ 30-11 win over UW-Oshkosh on Jan. 19. On Jan. 23, Behnke defeated two-time All American and No. 2-ranked Matt Adcock of UW-Whitewater 5-1 in overtime. He upended All-American and No. 3-ranked Layten Binion of North Central College (Ill.) by major decision 10-0. Behnke finished the day beating Curtis Blackwell of Olivet College (Mich.) by major decision 13-5.
