Three Blugolds Earn WIAC Athlete of the Week Honors

MADISON, Wis. (Blugolds.com) -The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire men's hockey player Adam Knochenmus (Roseau, Minn.), women's hockey player Paige Turner (Iron River, Wis./Duluth East), and women's swimming freshman Sam Senczyzyn (Grafton, Wis.) have each been named Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Athletes of the Week, it was announced by Assistant Commissioner of Media Relations Matt Stanek.

Knochenmus had a hat trick against Concordia College-Moorhead (Minn.) on November 14. He tallied the three goals on five shots as the Blugolds defeated the Cobbers 6-3. The junior scored the first two goals of the game and completed his hat trick early in the second period. Knochenmus has seven goals in six games on the season. 

Senior goalie Paige Turner had 59 saves in two games as the Blugolds women's hockey team defeated UW-Superior 2-1 on November 13, to earn their first conference win of the year. The Blugolds then skated to an overtime tie with the Yellowjackets on November 14. The senior started in both games and gave up two goals in 125 minutes of play.

Sam Senczyzyn a freshman on the women's swimming and diving team won all three of her events as the Blugolds defeated Minnesota State-Moorhead 148-140 on November 14. The freshman broke two school records, first in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:05.39 and then in the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:23.17. Senczyszyn achieved a NCCA B cut in the 100-yard breaststroke and finished first in the 100-yard freestyle event with a time of 53.3. The freshman was also on the 200-yard medley relay team that earned a second-place finish.
